This seam ripper is 5" long and is brown and comes with a protective case. A seam ripper is a small sewing tool used for cutting and removing stitches. The most common form consists of a handle, shaft and head. The head is usually forked with a cutting surface situated at the base of the fork. In some designs, one side of the fork tapers to a sharp point to allow easier insertion in tight stitching. The red ball is a safety feature. It's usually red so that you can easily see it and follow along with your ripper as you unpick. Because the other side has a sharp point and the middle has a blade, the side with the ball is meant to help protect your hands/fingers and the keep the fabric stay unripped.
