The Story: The San Marcos Springs is one of the oldest continually inhabited locations in North America.  In the Coahuiltecan tribe’s creation story, they were born out of these springs. There are 5 endangered species that exist at the springs and in the aquifer that feeds them. The Texas Wild Rice and the San Marcos Salamander are endemic to these springs. The water is approximately 72 degrees fahrenheit year round and the spring has never gone dry.
