Panda Family Happiness
Takashi Murakami's magnificent and distinctively Japanese style has cemented his place in the international art landscape. The Japanese artist is most recognized for his vibrant, anime inspired pop art and fashion collaborations with labels like Louis Vuitton, including pandas, skulls, and flowers as characteristic icons. He's been dubbed "The Japanese Andy Warhol" for his trippy and bright graphics." The pandas are "spirit residents of the other-dimensional colorful universe," according to Murakami, who "travel through time and space." It's a story imbued with sweetness, or kawaii in Japanese, as is most of Murakami's work; indeed, Panda Giant may be the most kawaii of the artist's whole body of work. But there's more to his parodies of his native country's fixation with cuteness than meets the eye — it's all part of a cultural examination of Japan. 2016 OffsetSigned and numbered by the artistEdition of 300 50 x 50 cm
