Late Victorian Sterling Silver Sash Buckle Brooch

This sterling silver buckle brooch, also known as a sash pin, with hand engraved floral motif is a textbook Victorian piece. Sash pins became popular after Queen Victoria brought wearing a sash across the chest or around the waist into fashion. This particular piece has many of the common attributes of the style of the time: the design imitating a buckle, a floral motif characteristic of the era that adds a sweet touch to this handsome brooch, and the simple C-clasp with no safety that is most common in Victorian sash pins. A maker's mark on the back of the pin indicates this piece was made by La Pierre (a New York based manufacturer of sterling silver since 1888), as does the specific engraved floral pattern used.   Condition Excellent vintage condition.   Hallmarks Marked Sterling and maker's mark of a stylized "L" on the back of the pin for La Pierre.   Measurements Measures 2 1/4" in length and 3 1/4" width. Weighs 27.2 grams.
