Sea glass or beach glass (or, as I grew up calling it, frosted glass) forms over decades as glass objects lost or discarded by humans are gradually abraded by sand and other substances on the ocean floor. It's an incredibly evocative material, and increasingly rare as glass gives way to plastic--a material that has a far more insidious effect on the environment. Sea glass is a contradiction. It's trash, but it's also evidence of the beauty that can be made from human wastefulness. Entirely handmade by me in my Connecticut studio, this pendant takes it shape from the glass as it was found. Other than flattening the back a bit, I didn't alter the sea glass at all. Cutouts in the back of the pendant allow light to pass through and enhance the beautiful (and very rare in sea glass) teal blue or cadet blue color.
