The Tale: Martvili Monastery was founded between VI and VII centuries. As it turns out, in ancient times, pagans here worshiped their idol, Chkondidi (The Great Oak). Unique secular and theological literature was written and spread from the Monastery. Frescoes from XIV, XVI, and XVII centuries can still be seen in the church of the Dormition of the Mother of God.
