This painting (24x36) is inspired by Andra Day’s brilliant performance of Billie Holiday in the movie “United States versus Billie Holiday.” There was something so moving about her performance that I was compelled to create this piece. Featured in the “Black Music, Black” exhibition at the National Museum of African American Music, this mixed media painting was the first installment of my quilting portrait series.
