Imagining royalty or a lineage of royalty—however problematic—was and is our way of combating white supremacy and the demonization of Africa as homeland. It is the sentiment that I attempt to register here. The background which is both ordered and chaotic—which evokes countless narratives—fills in the blanks of our collective humanity.
