Bumblebee Cichlid (Pseudotropheus crabro)

Remarks: Bumblebee Cichlids (Pseudotropheus crabro), sometimes called Hornet Cichlids, are named for their yellow and brown stripes. They have adopted this color pattern in the wild to advertise a unique behavior - they act as cleaner fish for large species of catfish in Lake Malawi! Their markings help them avoid being eaten. However, their color may quickly darken to a more solid brown, during which time they will attempt to eat the eggs of the catfish.  In captivity, this behavior is unlikely to be witnessed. As such, it will do well in a typical mbuna tank consisting of species that do not resemble their yellow-brown striping. One male to several females is the ideal ratio.
