Remarks: Dwarf Pencilfish (Nannostomus marginatus) are a very peaceful characin. They prefer to be kept in large schools, and they appreciate lots of cover in the form of long, grassy plants and floating plants. Both males and females have three horizontal black stripes with red dorsal, anal, and pelvic fins. Individuals will show a thin red stripe in above the middle black stripe depending on mood.  Pencilfish are great tankmates for breeding pairs of dwarf cichlids.
