Remarks: Champsochromis caeruleus, referred to as the Malawi Trout Cichlid, is a very large but relatively peaceful fish. Maxing out at 13", these long, torpedo-shaped fish are adapted for life in the middle of Lake Malawi. Males are a light-blue/cyan color with a red anal fin. While you can house them for a brief period in a 4-foot long tank, a 6-foot tank is recommended for long term success with this species.  They can be kept with most Haps, provided they are not small enough to be eaten. Trout Cichlids are not overly aggressive towards conspecifics or other species. They are maternal mouthbrooders and will produce 25-50 fry per clutch.  Scientific Name: Champsochromis caeruleus Common Name: Malawi Trout Max Size: 13" pH: 7.5-8.5 Hardness: Hard Temperature: 74-82° Aggressiveness: Aggressive Region of Origin: Lake Malawi, Africa Captive Bred or Wild: Captive Bred Diet: Flake or pellet Compatibility: Lake Malawi Haps, Peacocks, Synodontis catfish.
