Remarks: Platinum Hatchetfish (Thoracocharax stellatus) come from many parts of the Amazon, Orinoco, and Parana river basins. They get their name from the distinctive body shape - they have a very large, thin curving breastplate that makes the shape of a hatchet. They can be found in clear water as well as tannin-stained creeks.  With large, strong pectoral fins, Hatchetfish are capable of launching themselves out of the water. It is recommended that you keep them with a tight-fitting lid. Floating plants are an added measure of protection while also functioning as a calming mechanism. Hatchetfish typically hover high in the water column, with their flat backs parallel to the surface.  Scientific Name: Thoracocharax stellatus Common Name: Platinum Hatchetfish Max Size: 3" pH: 5.0-8.0 Hardness: Soft Temperature: 70-82° Aggressiveness: Peaceful Region of Origin: South America Captive Bred or Wild: Wild Diet: Small flake or pellet, small frozen or live foods Compatibility: Similarly sized
