Remarks: Melanotaenia sexlineata come from several locations in Papua New Guinea. They all appear to be golden-yellow with six horizontal red stripes and a thick lateral line underneath. The Tabubil location has the most red in the lips. They are a small species of rainbowfish, and genetic studies show they are likely part of the M. maccullochi group of fish.  The fish are omnivorous and should be fed a quality flake food with supplemental proteins such as baby brine shrimp. They require clean water but tolerate a wide variety of water parameters.
