Thermometer Knife

Remarks: The Thermometer Knife (Gymnorhamphicthys rondoni), sometimes called a Mousetail Knife, is truly an oddball of the Amazon. They spend most of their time burrowing in the sand, waiting until the cover of dark to emerge and look for worms or insects to eat. With a modified anal fin, they can undulate backward and forward with ease. they are weakly electric and use this soft electric current to communicate and sense their surroundings. These fish require a fine sand substrate and plenty of cover. It is best to not keep them with aggressive fish. Feeding them after the lights go out is necessary as other fish will easily outcompete them during the daylight. Due to the sensitive nature of these fish, DOA claims will only be provided if photos show the fish in the unopened bag. Please be aware that these fish spend a lot of time motionless on their side, giving the appearance that they are dead.
