Species: Potamon potamios Age: Pleistocene (<400k years) Location: Denizli Basin, Southwest Turkey   Approx. specimen size: 1.25" x 1.25" ( including legs) Approx. matrix size: 4" x 3.25" x 12" Acrylic case/stand is included (see picture for reference) This cute little fellow is a fossil freshwater crab preserved in travertine.  It is spectacularly preserved as a 3D outer cast within a cavity in white travertine. Travertine is a form of limestone deposited around mineral springs.  It is often used as a building material. These crabs are discovered when workers are sawing blocks of travertine and cut into voids.
