Keeping the tradition alive for centuries was not always easy: World War II forced the family to abandon their workshop and without any belongings move to Hohenhameln, where they began production again and found that American soldiers stationed in nearby Hannover wanted to bring an original German souvenir back to the United States – the Steinbach nutcracker. This helped boost th
