Zuni Pueblo carver Gilbert Lonjose created this anteater using pipestone. Although not a traditional animal carved, the anteater is a solitary animal that reminds us to take time for personal reflection. Many tribes and Pueblos of the Southwest are known for making fetishes, but this ancient art form is most closely associated with the Zuni, who are considered some of the most skilled fetish carvers. The Zuni people believe that the skills and qualities of the animal reside in these fetishes and can bring some of the animals’ attributes to their keeper.Carving measures 2-3/4" long and 7/8" wide, stands 1-3/4" tall. Comes with certificate of authenticity.
