Antique Apollinaris Water Framed Tin Sign

c. 1910s/1920s; Apollinaris Company Ltd. - London Antique "animal celebrity" endorsement mineral water advertising sign. This piece advertises Apollinaris mineral water, a brand based around water sourced from Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler in Germany. The sign features a painted depiction of Pretty Rolly, "the queen of the Turf", and her jockey. Polly, an Irish-bred and British-trained Thoroughbred racehorse and broodmare, is considered one of the greatest fillies ever to race in Britain. She achieved remarkable success by winning fifteen consecutive races and became only the fifth horse to secure the British Fillies Triple Crown since its inception in 1814.
