Antique Art Deco Five Bulb Hanging Fixture

Five-light cast metal ceiling fixture. Manufactured during the height of the Great Depression, this angular ceiling fixture features a sharply faceted stem and geometric arms in the early Art Deco style. Each of the five sockets is set into scalloped bobeches with ribbed detailing, originally designed for exposed bulbs or shallow slip shades. Cast from spelter and finished in painted polychrome, this piece reflects residential lighting's transition from revivalist ornamentation to the more streamlined, architectural forms of the Machine Age. Wiring is old cloth braided and is in poor condition so this lamp has not been tested. Heavy patina present on fixture.
