c. 1930s; Keene, NH Painted convex tin corner sign for Chabot's Barber Shop, featuring hand-painted portraiture and bold block lettering. The central image depicts a smiling, clean-cut gentleman above the words CHABOT'S BARBER SHOP in blue with a red arrow banner highlighting "BARBER." This business operated out of a lowered entrance on West and Court Streets in Keene, New Hampshire. The back of this piece has a series of brackets for mounting, along with a line of wire for hanging - specifically intended to be mounted to a corner of a building or column. Barbershop signage of this era often relied on local sign painters rather than mass production, giving each example unique charm and personality. This piece exhibits moderate rusting, mainly in the form of small spots across the surface. This is likely due to this sign being used in an exterior street side setting.
