Early 20th Century Mercantile Rolltop Grain Counter
1909; possibly Charles K. Fox Co. or Parnall & Sons, Ltd. Antique oak seed or grain counter with rolltop doors. Beans included! This piece was designed to allow customers in general and feed stores to gather their own grains or seeds (depnding on the stock). A small viewing window for each drawer is used to preview the contents, in our case each is filled with beans. A large rolltop door below each of these was likely used to house a larger supply of the more in-demand products. Each of these rolltops open to reveal a large storage area that runs down to the base of the cabinet. A faded shop tag on the back shows an illegible manufacturer name and a construction date of 1909. Exhibits minor signs of wear including some chips and scuffs. The wood on the rolltop doors shows some splits, but is not cracked. The top also shows some splits and cracks, however. Glass fronts appear to show no cracks. 145.25" W x 24.5" D x 42" H Bean drawers: 10" W x 9.75" D x 4.25" H Large drawers: 22
