c. 1910s; Postum Cereal Co., Inc. - Battle Creek, MI Antique tin litho cereal advertising sign. This piece advertises Grape-Nuts, the impossibly hard-to-chew cereal created in 1897 by Charles W. Post. The sign references the cereal's early health claims, something Post would've learned while a patient at Battle Creek Sanitarium, where director John Kellogg claimed how grain-filled foods can alter human behavior. Where Kellogg invented Corn Flakes and Malted Nuts, Post created Toasties and Grape-Nuts, both promoted as having all the necessary nutrients a growing brain and body needs. The sign is self-framed within a tin border, showing lightly embossed design embellishments. Exhibits heavy rust across the entirety of the surface, but most of the sign is still legible. 20" W x 30" H Please refer to photos regarding condition.
