Sporting Equipment Sales in a Rugged Environment Sales at retail sporting goods stores are flat but still better than many other retail verticals. Q1 2023 sales increased 3.8% YOY but then Q2 2023 sales decreased 0.01%, resulting in a 0.06% increase in sales for the first half of 2023. The US Bureau of Economic Analysis “personal consumption expenditures” for “sporting equipment, supplies, guns and ammunition” showed better sales numbers, with Q1 2023 expenditures increasing 2.4% YOY and Q2 2023 expenditures increasing 3.1% YOY. Statista reports good news for the US sports equipment market, forecasting a 19.5% increase from 2023 ($24.30 billion) to 2027 ($29.04 billion).
