The Uni Kuru Toga mechanical pencil features an innovative lead rotating system that is often considered the most important advance in mechanical pencil engineering. The spring-loaded engine rotates the lead by a tiny fraction each time the pencil is lifted off the paper, allowing the lead to maintain a consistent point. This self-sharpening system prevents the lead from flattening on one side and creating a tip that's likely to chip, or snag the paper.
