On this rare 1966 Chicago garage rock single, the Rooks exhibited, like many bands of their sort, a heavy influence from the R&B-oriented groups of the British Invasion. The A-side, "A Girl Like You," is a decent original quite indebted to the sort of fuzz guitar riffs heard on the Rolling Stones' "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction" and Them's "I Can Only Give You Everything." The Stones are paid more explicit tribute on the B-side, a straightforward cover of that group's "Empty Heart" that goes into a Yardbirds-style rave-up at the end. The single was reissued 40 years later by Sundazed in a picture sleeve with a historical liner note on the back cover. ~ Richie Unterberger
