This is a lovely WWI Memorial Plaque commemorating the life and service of Frederick John Tilbey, who was killed in action on April 27th, 1916, while serving as Acting Bombardier with the 134th Battery, 32nd Brigade, Royal Field Artillery. Tilbey was born in 1895, and enlisted in the Army very early, on August 23rd, 1914. His service number was 74175. He was the son Of John And Emily Tilbey of 106 Lancefield St. Queen's Park, Paddington, London. Born At Harmondsworth Yiewsley Middx. Comes more than ready for further research and display. The Memorial Plaque was issued after the First World War to the next-of-kin of all British Empire service personnel who were killed as a result of the war. The plaques (which could be described as large plaquettes) about 4.72 inches (120 mm) in diameter, were cast in bronze, and came to be known as the "Dead Man’s Penny", or “Death Penny”, because of the similarity in appearance to the much smaller penny coin which it
