Original U.S. Springfield Trapdoor Model 1873 Rifle made in 1877 with Standard Ramrod - Serial No 7586?
Original Item: Only One available. This is a very nice service used example of the classic Springfield trapdoor rifle, the weapon used, in its carbine form, by the troopers of the 7th Cavalry that met their fate at the Battle of Little Big Horn in 1876. The breech block is marked: U.S. MODEL 1873 Offered in very nice condition is this trapdoor rifle in .45-70 government caliber, Serial # 7586? with an overall worn metal finish with all proofs still present. The serial number has the last number unfortunately worn away, but serial numbers for the entire production stopped at 567882, so it has to be production in 1877. The stock is in very good original condition, with lots of character. It has some designs carved into the fore stock above the lower barrel band, possibly to make it easier to grip. There is some separation along the grain lines on the butt stock, which have been filled from what we can tell. Most likely it dried out, and the wood started to split in areas, now in the lo
