The estate takes its name from Ramon Carbonnieu, who owned the property in 1234. It fell into the hands of Benedictine monks in 1292 until sometime after the end of the Hundred Years War when the were forced to give up the property. Jean de Ferron purchased the property and began to construct the buildings on the property and purchase more vines. His descendants owned the property until 1740 when they were forced to sell due to high debts. The property was purchased by the Benedictine monks from Sainte-Abbey. The same group who owned the property in the 13th century. During the later part of the 18th century, Carbonnieux produced the best white wine in the Medoc. AS with most estates, the property was seized during the French Revolution and sold at auction. The Bouchereau family purchased the estate. They family owned the estate for 87 yeas.
