Entanglements with fishing gear account for 85% of all North Atlantic Right Whale (NARW) deaths with severe impacts on sea turtles, seals, porpoises and other whale species. Fishing zone closures due to NARW sightings impact individual fishermen between $5 - $60k in lost income daily; with zone closure typically lasting a minimum of 2 weeks.
