Filet o Floral
Drawing inspiration from the visionary works of Odilon Redon and Picasso, Iris endeavored to strike a delicate balance between the unusual and the beautiful. For this piece, the Iris employed three distinct techniques. The background, rendered through finger painting, utilizes the wet-into-wet technique with oils to evoke the illusion of a shimmering, metallic expanse. The foreground is an eclectic mix of brushes, finger painting, palette knives, and bursts of high-pressure air. An industrial air compressor was even employed to delicately craft the fragile, transparent petals of flowers, infusing them with a glow.. Bold, confident swipes of a spatula, loaded with multiple oil colors at once, created the whimsical, striped flowers in a single decisive motion. This piece stands as a testament to Iris’s innovative spirit, merging traditional techniques with inventive approaches to breathe new life into the enduring theme of the floral painting.
