No amount of verbal detail can equal the direct visual awareness of pomp and ceremony, and of luxurious life, with which the painter has invested the scene. The wedding of Prince Dara Shikoh, whom Shah Jahan, the builder of the Taj Mahal, favored as his successor was performed with exceptional splendor. Marriage alliances within the imperial family were arranged within a very small circle. This ceremony united Prince Dara Shikoh with Nadira Banu Begum.
