This sculpture depicts Saint Francis comforting a group of birds. A very beautiful figurine. Sizes less than 22" are carved in Mountain Maple Wood, 22" and up in Linden Wood, holy wood (lt. sacrum lignum).It is hard to believe this is carved wood.  Saint Francis is usually depicted with birds, deer, fish or wolf.
