The Star of Lamar

A single, frost-covered cottonwood catches the first rays of the sun in Yellowstone National Park's Lamar Valley. It was twenty-below zero when I took this photo, and after wading through waist-deep snow to get in position, I was out of breath and spring seemed an eternity away. Still, I noticed more light in the sky than a month earlier and knew it wouldn't be long until this tree's shadow fell on blooming dandelions. Time rolls on.....
