The Kawataro Selvedge is a 14.5oz Japanese selvedge denim inspired by Kawataro, the prank-happy river yokai better known as Kappa, famous for his love of cucumbers, sumo bouts on the riverbank, and general mischief. That spirit shows up in the fabric’s fresh greencast and unruly texture. Low-tension weaving with irregular slub yarns gives the surface real bite, while rope-dyed indigo penetrates unevenly so the dye sits differently across the yarns. As it wears, you get a spectrum of indigo tones and bold, three-dimensional fades.
