Telescope Alignment Evaluation Image

Webb Telescope Alignment Image The purpose of this image was to evaluate the JWST's mirror alignment and confirm the optics were working as planned, but the resulting image is spectacular in its own right and clearly shows off what the new telescope is capable of, already exceeding expectations. This image was taken using the NIRCam (Near Infrared Camera), using a red filter to add visual contrast. The central star is 2MASS J17554042+6551277, and in the distance other galaxies and stars are picked up by the camera.
