Webb Telescope Alignment Image This is one of the first images released, and shows the progression of Webb's mirror alignment process. An isolated star in the constellation Ursa Major (known as HD 84406) was chosen due to it being easily identifiable as well as secluded from other bright stars. Webb's 18 mirror segments created this scattered mosaic. The "stars" seen here are in fact a single star repeated 18 times, as reflected by the various and, and at the time, still unaligned mirrors.
