This listing is for the Exceptional Don Stivers Civil War Confederate Battle Scene Gouache Painting pictured above. About this work:An exceptional original gouache painting by the 20th century master of military paintings Donald “Don” Stivers (American, 1926-2009).This wonderful work by Stivers depicts a Confederate battalion in the heat of battle at Marye’s Heights in Fredericksburg, VA. Cannons are bursting while soldiers struggle to maintain spooked horses. The battle takes place in the dead of winter with horses’ breath and gunpowder fogging up the air. A rich sunset offers the only warmth in an otherwise hectic, snowy scene. This work is a preliminary study for "Post of Honor”, which was commissioned by the V Corps Artillery in 1990.*The work is gouache on board and is signed by Stivers in the lower right. It is matted and framed behind glass. This is a rare opportunity to acquire an outstanding original work by Stivers, whose paintings and prints are widely collected and displayed
