This listing is for the original Martha Walter (American, 1875-1976) portrait of a baby girl titled Susie and Her Horse pictured above.This beautiful, original oil on board depicts a chubby baby girl wearing overalls and a bonnet. The baby sits on a large pink chair with floral motifs on the upholstery. Martha Walter is well-known for her portraits of children, and this is an excellent example of her work.The work is signed “Martha Walter” in the lower right corner and additionally titled, signed, and dated “Susie and Her Horse, Gloucester, Mass., Martha Walter, 1945” on the reverse. The work was previously sold by Hammer Galleries in New York and bears their stamp on the reverse. In the 1960s Hammer Galleries partnered with David David Gallery to sell works from her estate.
