PAIR Original 19th C. Kate Greenaway Pencil Drawings Girls Holiday Illustrations
This listing is for the pair of original 19th century Kate Greenaway pencil drawings pictured above.About this work:A wonderful pair of original drawings by iconic 19th century illustrator Kate Greenaway (1846-1901).These works depict two young girls dressed for the holidays. Donned in fur and a fancy gown, each girl stands on a chair and hoists a wine glass in their right hand. While each of these finely rendered drawings appear to be unpublished, they were possibly studies for greeting cards that Greenaway produced for Marcus Ward. The style and subject matter of each work are reflective of Greenaway’s illustrations from the 1880s and 1890s.Each work is pencil on paper and one of them is inscribed by Greenaway in the upper right "A Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year". Each is housed in an appropriate later frame behind glass.Size:16 inches tall by 11.5 inches wide (each drawing)17.75 inches tall by 13.25 inches wide (each frame)Provenance:Collection of Dr. Abraham and Carolyn Schlossman
