Tipsy Triangles - Falling Gold
Back in my University days (not that long ago – I got my degree in metalsmithing and jewelry design by the age of 30) one of the very first pieces I made in metals 1 was a beautiful sterling silver pendant and earring set that featured falling gold leaf foil using the Mokume Gane technique – it was stunning. I have always loved the idea of lightly falling gold flakes – I love the idea of something being frozen in time, un-moveable while also being delicate and graceful and full of motion. I love a good juxtaposition. The Tipsy Triangles in Falling Gold are the elevated version of my first attempt in metals 1. To make these stunning, asymmetrical beauties I forge the frame from sterling silver wire, solder on jump rings, make the dapps, solder the posts on and then I layer resin and gold colored foil again, and again, and again, and again….seriously, these take a lot of very thin layers of resin to give the effect of falling through space.
