This pretty piece is a collaboration between two of our favorite makers — the legendary ceramicist Astier de Villatte and celebrated designer John Derian — and takes its inspiration from classic Dutch delftware. A type of tin-glazed pottery made in the Netherlands since the 16th century, delftware’s iconic blue-and-white palette and elegant designs were in turn derived from traditional Chinese pottery. Talk about art inspiring art! Handcrafted in Astier’s Paris workshop using locally-sourced black terracotta clay, this plate is finished with colorful fruits and florals sourced from Derian’s expansive collection of antique imagery, creating a dead ringer for authentic delftware.
