Originally painted with watercolor on 300 gsm watercolor paper, I wanted to showcase how Carmine Bee-eaters (Merops sp.) follow larger creatures around as they walk through tall grasslands. The bigger the animal, the more insects they can catch. As the African Bush Elephant (Loxodonta africana) roams through the grass, the bee-eaters swoop in to eat the disturbed insects. A kind of commensal relationship is found between the two, where the bee-eaters benefit, and the elephants are seemingly unaffected. Located in Botswana, Africa.
