The Radiated Tortoise, Astrochelys radiata, is considered to be one of the world’s most beautiful tortoises. Unfortunately, they are critically endangered, being the most abundant in the southwestern part of Madagascar. They prefer to live in dry regions of bush, forests, and woodlands. With a classic tortoise shaped body, they have bright gold/yellow markings that look like a sun with radiating beams of light extending outwards. Their numbers are decreasing due to the pet trade, habitat loss, and being poached for food. There’s not much else to say except for the fact that we can elect better officials to enforce rules about the illegal animal trade.
