Martin Luther King Jr. was an American baptist minister and activist who became the most visible spokesperson and leader in the civil rights movement from 1955 to his assassination in 1968. He brought about the passage of the Civil Rights Acts of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965. He won the Nobel Peach Prize in 1964 and a Federal Holiday was designated on January 13th, 1986.
