The Story Behind Sursock Museum; The Sursock Museum was born out of Lebanese collector Nicolas Sursock’s commitment to the endorsement and promotion of art. Sursock left his mansion built in 1912 to the citizens of Lebanon as an art museum upon his death in 1952. Its architecture integrates Venetian and Arabesque elements which were typical in Lebanon at the turn of the century. The outstanding warm and bright colors of the stained-glass in the Façade, add to the beauty of the building’s white architecture refurbished after the Lebanese war. Sursock Museum was refurbished after the civil war in the 90s, and suffered significant damage again on August 4th, 2020 port’s explosion.
