The Spinning Top Dreidel was inspired by the wood spinning tops of the Far East. The four sides of The Windows of Hanukkah Dreidel are embossed with the Hebrew letters nun, gimmel, heh, shin or pe, the initials of the sentence “ness gadol hayah sham (or poh),” (a great miracle happened there (or here) ), a reference to the miracle of the oil and the story of Chanukah.  The artist's aim was to create a dreidel telling the story of the miracle. The dreidel, a brass cube structure with four windows, reveals the story as it is spun. In each window, a scene is hand-painted on parchment. The dreidel spins on its trapeze axle, which mirrors another on a stone base. The stone is quarried from the very land of that story it tells. Each work is signed by the artist and is available in a limited edition. 1997, Brass and painted parchment on a Jerusalem stone base.
