The composition of this painting comes from several sources including a 1913 color tinted postcard, a photo I snapped in the fall of 2011, and several black and white photos of Holy Names Academy that I found in HNA’s “Manakata” yearbooks over the past 85 years. The all-girls’ Catholic high school was built in 1890 and closed in 1975. I took creative license painting the school roof, bricks, and landscaping closer to what it looked like when I graduated in 1973. This watercolor of the venerable institution was painted for the National Historic Convention which will be held in Spokane, Washington this year. I just could not resist painting the luminous sunrays across the lawn. For m,e they reflect and bring back all of the joyous memories that I and so many others experienced during our high school years at HNA. Shipping costs may change based on actual rates.
