Spider Lily

These gorgeous flowers are actually called ground water lilies, but I like my name much better! I first saw them growing in a garden that was part of a spectacular visual display at the Spokane River Open Home Artist Show. My mom held my arm while I very gingerly stepped into the garden to get a close up photo. The colors were just too irresistible for me to pass up!    Several months later I purchased an old VHS tape on how to paint vibrant orchids. As I watched it, I realized that these techniques and colors might work for my spider lilies. The teacher used colors that were completely new to me and a method of painting dark, deep colored backgrounds, which I also wanted to try. It was a bit scary however. One mistake and the painting was doomed! Shipping costs may vary.
