Ever wondered what Pine Tar Soap is? You will be amazed at the healing properties of Pine Tar Soap. My Grandmother immigrated from Budapest, Hungary in the late 1930's. I grew up working on the family farm and she taught us the Old World way to make soap. On soap making day (once a year) She would notch the pine trees in Southern Louisiana and hang a small bucket underneath to collect the sap. After the boucherie (yearly slaughter) all the fat would get rendered in a huge black cast iron pot. Lye was made the week before (oak burned to ash, rain water added then cooked down until a FRESH hens egg floated) then all the soapmaking truly began. She used cast iron mold she brought with her through Ellis Island. Using my Great Grandmother's recipes for our basic soaps we make our soaps using the cold-process method to keep the therapeutic properties of the natural ingredients.
