Winter Whites Original Painting  Acrylic on canvas, 18" x 24" I painted this in the deep quiet of a Hudson Valley winter, when the air goes still and the fields disappear under heavy snow. Then the melt begins — and with it the world contracts to whites and darks and the thin line between them. What looks simple is not. There are twenty colors living inside that snow, and the dark band at the center holds everything together the way a low horizon holds the eye to the earth. This is a painting about staying present when the landscape offers you almost nothing — and finding that almost nothing is everything.
